HIARCS Milestone Achievements
Since 1991 HIARCS has proven to be one of the world's strongest chess
programs. This was achieved not through brute-force methods, but through a much
more chess knowledge intensive approach which has led to a more human like
playing style.
HIARCS stands for Higher Intelligence Auto Response Chess System.

 | 1980 HIARCS is born in a physics classroom! |
 | 1989 HIARCS competes in its first tournament, the first Computer Olympiad
in London. |
 | 1991 World Amateur Microcomputer Chess Champion, Vancouver, Canada. |
 | 1992 HIARCS 1.0 released for PC MS-DOS. Rating on PC
386/33Mhz 1900 Elo. |
 | 1993 World Computer Chess Olympiad Champion, London, England. |
 | 1993 HIARCS 2.0 released. Rating on PC 486/50Mhz

Garry Kasparov specifically requested an experimental HIARCS 6.X version for his
preparations for the Deep Blue 2 match. |

HIARCS 6.0 defeated I.M. Deen Hergott 4-2 in a match at long time controls,
Ottawa, Canada (first PC in history to win a match against a FIDE I.M.).

Palm HIARCS 9.5a defeats GM Jan Gustafsson 3-1 in internet match achieving a
2809 Elo performance rating. |
 | 2005 Palm HIARCS defeats GM Sergey Volkov 3-1 and
GM Piotr Bobras 3-1 in two four game matches. |
 | 2005 PC HIARCS 10.0 released with largest jump in
playing strength for 12 years. |
 | 2006 HIARCS wins annual Internet Chess Club open computer chess blitz
tournament and is second in the main tournament. |
 | 2006 HIARCS for Palm becomes the
first handheld chess computer in history to win a GM tournament when it won
the 2nd
Congress Pichay Invitational in the
Philippines and defeated super GM Mark Paragua. |
 | 2006 PC HIARCS MP just born and competes for the first time ever and
gains third in the
Dutch Open Computer Chess Tournament |
 | 2006 PC HIARCS 11.0 released with a multiprocessor
capability for the first time |
 | 2007 HIARCS wins annual
Internet Chess Club open computer
chess blitz tournament for the second year running and is second in
the main
